Handles for Group Chisel Order
Since a bunch of us are getting chisels in the group order, alot of handles will also have to be made. I've put my hand up for this laborious task
You've got a few options for shape: Blue spruce style, Harold and Saxon style, butt style or some made to suit your hand.
As for ferrules you can have just straight tube or something fancy like the Blue Spruce or H&S. The latter two will cost more because they'll have to be made out of solid brass rod.
Because they'll be paring chisels and you won't be whacking them with a mallet then I can make them with pretty much any timber (within reason.)
I have lots of Jarrah, enough Brushbox for one set and Lace Sheoak. I can also get Sydney Blue Gum, Blackbutt or apple, but they'll be quite green. If you want any of those timber I'll have a crack at drying them in the ol' oven.
You can also supply your own timber
For the most basic option you're probably looking at $12 each. That's no fancy shaping and just a basic ferrule. For some fancy shaping: $15. For a fancy ferrule, you might be looking at up to $20 each, due to cost of the brass and extra time taken.
The lace sheoak will cost a bit extra because I have to obtain it "strategically"
Cheers,
Funky C

Put me down for a set
Hi Andrew,
I will take a set of 10 handles, Harold & Saxon style.
What is delivery time etc?
Any chance in getting them in Hairy Oak to match the awl & knife I just ordered?
Thanks
Brendan

Since you're all probably wanting to use your chisels as soon as you get them you'll need the handles to be done no later that the chisels arrive. So it all depends on when the chisels are finished (and I have no idea when that is.)
I have a fairly limited supply of hairy oak so that's probably not an option.

Funky, ferrules are not a good idea for these chisels. These chisels are not suitable to be struck with anything. You would snap them.

Funky
I read your post in the Stanley "War & Peace" length thread and have looked at the Blue Spruce handles - I like them. I have also looked at your work and it looks good
I am interested in getting them from you.
We have plenty of time to sort them out.
As a matter of interest what size stock do you require. I might be able to send it to you.

Suppose I'd better update the pricing
Basic Shaping: $15 each
Blue Spruce Shaping: $20 each
Reason for the higher prices is that after making some handles for a forumite I realised that they take alot more time than I first thought.
The reason the blue spruce shaping costs more is that it's quite hard to get the shaping exactly right and doing it 8 times (and getting them to match) is harder still
If you opt for basic ferrules then I'll have to make them as well. More time involved
35mm square is the minimum requirement for handle blanks
