Thread: Harold & Saxon chisel orders

Many of us have been waiting years and Trent has been delivering on orders from 2011 & 2012 in the past few months.
He appears to have come through a bad patch and is working through the list.
Your two month “wait is just the start”.
They will come and I’d hope you’d have them within 12 Months????
Many here are hoping that our deposits and paid in full orders from years ago arrive before you get your set ordered just a couple of months ago.
I hope for you that you don’t have to wait that long all things being equal.
With respect

Yeah, I figured that might be the case and had read the stories from other customers here before I placed the order. I had heard from him almost every day while we worked though some specifics about the order, then once I had made the deposit. Radio silence.
He had said that he hoped to get them to me by Christmas, but I guess he didn't say which Christmas.
I did pick up a pair of skew chisels of his on eBay recently so that can tide me over in the meantime.
I sure hope you guys who have been waiting forever will get to see your orders soon.

I am lead to believe that things 'maybe' turning around for Trent health wise and am thinking of having another go at purchasing some H&S chisels.
Anyone have Trent Powrie's contact details?

While I have no doubt the makers are fantastic fellows and have all the best of intentions.... And no doubt what they were making was great stuff... I think I might give this one a pass unless you could lay your hands on a set of chisels which were in-stock...

I sure hope that's the case. If I were to learn that he's back up and running and hitting his deadlines I would absolutely try again at ordering from him.

From what I have read he is working for Henry Eckert Toolworks. I can't do links but if you go into their site and click on any size mortise chisel, scroll down and open (news section) all will be revealed.

I am not sure that Trent is making those chisels any more. My understanding is that he did make up a small batch, but did not continue as with the addition of a middle man it was not economic for him.
I have visited him twice in recent times: The first was prior to receiving my own set of H & S chisels and the second time early this year after I had the chisels. He has fundamentally got his life back together again after a series of devastating events and was re-building his workshop machinery so he could get production back into full swing. He was still able to produce his chisels, but at a lower rate. At that time he had only one order to fulfill from the group buy and another large order from a long time customer. I have no further knowledge of his progress from after that second visit.
It is possible that he has negotiated a further contract with Henry Eckert Toolworks, but I would need to hear that from Trent before believing it.
I have two sets of H & S chisels, one the paring style from the GB and the other a set of mortice chisels. I use them infrequently, but by coincidence I used one of the parers today for a small job: It was a treat!

That is dated January, and my understanding is that was all off by early March.

Brett
I think that time frame is about right. What I should have added is that if those HE chisels are still available it is an opportunity to buy what is in reality a Harold & Saxon chisel.

I would suspect that it was one, possibly two sets made as a trial, took more work than expected (i.e. underquoted w'sale price) and new satisfactory terms for both parties couldn't be reached. That means I doubt there are any for sale, but what would I know?

Agreed Brett
I did say " if " the chisels were still available.

I have a GB set (6 by memory - 1 more than the GB, but I’d have to check for certain) plus a H&S leather wrap that I’d be happy to sell. There’s nothing wrong with them, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever used them. I bought 2 full sets of titans while I was waiting for my H&S and I quite like them.
Message me if your interested, otherwise I’ll list them on the marketplace.
