I noticed that you mentioned over on Woodnet that you have ordered some H&S chisels.
Which ones did you go for?
These chisels are certainly getting a reputation for beauty and from what I saw at the Sydney Wood Show, they keep their edge -- and then some.

Trent Powrie (who makes the H and S chisels) has most kindly offered to send me a couple of the HSS versions to test. These should come off the next production run in about 5 weeks.

Trent has described to me the composition of the steel and I find this very interesting. The high carbon versions are formulated along very similar lines to the Bergs, while the HSS are hardened to 61 hrc, which would be (in my mind) more like honing a Japanese chisel, and quite different to M2 (as Trent noted).

I am looking forward to trying these chisels out. What the HSS promises to do (and what I am interested in examining) is to go a step beyond the A2 LN chisels and offer a blade that is capable of being honed at 25 degrees (rather than the 35 degrees recommended by LN).

I ordered my set in Tiger Myrtle. I can't wait.

I'm in the market for some new chisels and at this stage I'm looking at LN, Pfiel or the Aussie brand H&S. I've read many reviews, including Chris Gochnour's last testing of twenty three brands but I'm still hesitant as to which bench chisel type is for me. I already have a few "odds and sods" including a couple of EA Bergs which I'm very happy with but I don't have a reasonable set, which I hope to rectify in the near future. Derek, if you are about, some advice from you or anyone else would be appreciated.

I cannot say more than I wrote early on at this stage. You will have to wait until I actually get to use them. Likely to be in about 5 or 6 weeks.
