Default Help Needed with Stanley Mitre Box H114A

G'day all, picked up a mitre box at a garage sale, as per pics, but can't figure out how to use it.

Intuition would dictate that you place the chrome plate into the degree setting you wish to cut at and then as you cut throughout the wood the saw bracket slides down the guide pole keeping the saw at the desired angle.

However, the guide pole that the saw bracket slides down and the chrome plate that is locked into the angle degree selector are not parallel and so as the saw cuts further through the wood and the guide post angle and the chrome plate angle close and the saw bracket jams and will cut no further.

Am I doing this wrong, I think I am. Can somebody please send instructions or point me into the right direction for instructions.

    thanks

Turn the unit around 180 degrees. You've photographed the back of the mitre box. Saw blade goes in the cavity formed by the red metal piece to keep the saw blade upright. It is usual to place a thin sacrificial board on the metal base (has the angles cast into it) to protect the saw.

Thanks homesy I reckon you could be right there. I think I've got this bloody thing around the wrong way.I'm in Adelaide and as soon as it drops below 4000 degrees I'll visit the shed and test your idea.

It looks like it is one of those cheap ones that have a spring loaded or thumb screw tension keeper to keep the saw blade 90 deg to the base, so if the saw is not correctly sharpened and set it will wonder or your arm action with the saw is not smooth it will make the saw wonder too.

If it is the type of mitre box I am thinking of, they were a total failure
The person who never made a mistake never made anything

    Cheers
    Ray
