Henry Boxer saw
Hi All
Bought a saw this aftenoon. It had this Henry Boxer medallion on it. A google search can't find any information other than Remscheid is in Germany.
Has anyone heard of this saw manufacturer before?
cheers

Somebody made a boo boo when they made the die for that medallion, it should read HENRY BOKER - REMSCHEID.
Product Catalogue - Heinrich Böker (Henry Boker), Henry Böker Hand Saws, circa 1954

Thanks Planemaker. Searching on that name gets more info. Seems they started in the late 1700's and made a variety of tools in particular pliers. There is also a company here in Oz still selling tools with that name and that arrow trademark.

Seems like a keen collector might place value on a misprinted medallion...

I am not sure that it is mis-printed. I think it may be mis-interpreted. The "K" at that angle can look quite like an "X"

Henry Boker were (are) a Solingen based cutler & toolmaker. Actually Remscheid, which is just next door to Solingen in the industrial heartland of the Rhine valley.
I remember having an old camping cutlery set that had a useful knife & fork and a useless plastic teaspoon sandwiched between in a plastic cover that included an integrated salt & pepper shaker. Useful 'till it inevitably got wet, which rendered the condiments uselessly solidified.
I also seem to recall that Boker made a series of excellent quality carbon steel folding knives that had traditional bone & wooden handle scales, plus some more modern stainless variants with rather crappy plastic ones in a pale imitation of the Swiss Army manufacturers Victorinox & Wenger. I had a Stihl branded variant with the obligatory Orange Scales.
There was also some more modern tool manufacture, with I believe some very expensive, high quality tube or box spanners bearing the Boker trademark.
Their particular specialties seem to be high quality folding knives & razors, pliers and household items such as scissors, shears etc. I suspect that Henry Boker is just another once proud company that struggled to survive the mid century carpet bombing and late century onslaught of low quality imitation from eastern asia, and has since been swallowed up by the North American Cooper Tools Group.Sycophant to nobody!
