I am gonna try and get there at 9. But it is Sunday. I'm just going out now to find that bit of ironwood to go in my handbag.

Got there at 0900 and sped around the course. Didn't get anything but bumped into Scooter and Josh.
Not many bargains there, mostly market prices or a bit higher. I guess that is expected given they advertise to those generally in the know.
TL must have slept in, didn't see her at all.

If you want to play with a Falcon 6, I have one here you can have. It only has a frog attached and a front knob and broken handle and needs a de-rust bath. No other parts. It was given to me recently and I am happy to pass it on. You can come and get it or arrange pickup or whatever. There is also a small smoother maybe Anant or Russian that goes with it. Might be good for throwing at a stray cat or some other useful purpose.

LOL.
Thanks Col for that kind offer.
I 'restored' a Stanley 6; made a hash of flattening the bottom despite carefully following instructions. Might have been poor technique but have learned since that lapping is likely to produce a convex base.
Bringing that one back by scraping wld be a major effort so I was thinking about starting anew with a bare unit.Cheers, Ern

Did you lap the plane with all parts in place? Removing the frog prior to lapping can cause that. It should be ready for use with the blade retracted when lapping.

Family conspired to not let me out the door till 8.45, so I didn't get there till 9.30ish. So obviosly I missed the super fast early birds. I did manage to get a few things. After a few laps to case the joint.
Here is the pile of rust. A fellow darksider group member at Knox wanted me to get her a little spoke shave ($8) and a marking gauge ($6 ). And I wanted a block plane ($12 ). Also found a tapered mandrel for the grinder ($10), a 1' x10 tap ($10) , a couple of files and a curvy surface thingy what I can't remember the name of right now. ($5), and a 3/4' dado plane which I have kinda craved for a while, and nearly talked myself out of. ($28. Not enough "won't power" ) Not bad I reckon. I only had $4.50 left in my wallet to go and have a coffee with.

3/4' Dado plane. Silky oak I reckon. And a beautiful thing. I'll have the do a project with it now. Maybe a tool cupboard, cos there is so many tools on the bench there is nowhere to work.
Attachment 132802
The little block plane. Only a Stanley 110, but the smallest mouth in the place. Some you could have fitted a triple blade razor in. On close inspection at home I discerned a sweetheart mark on the blade. It is currently having its beauty bath. (cos its a but rusty. )

Should I put handles on the files? Maybe If I want to avoid real work some day. But I love this bit of dowel with nail. I think I have to keep this one like this.

Is this gloating?anne-maria.
