Id-ing some old? chisels
Hi guys,
I have happened to come in possession of a whole bunch of oldish tools from my grandfather in law who passed away. I managed to pick up a tool chest full of old sidchrome (made in australia) spanners and socket sets (as well as sidchrome adjustable wrenches, some of which say they are made in sweeden?)etc
I am kind of holding on to sidchrome, stahlwille etc stuff but there is a whole bunch of toold with makers from england, germany, to spain, to sweeden and USA that i have no clue about. But i digress, instead of flooding this post, i better focus on chisels. The chisels themselves dont look n good condition (an i would like to know if they are worth saving so please bear with me here.
Some i could find information on the chisel but some were simply worn away.
from left to right,
Signal? (only discernible writing on the chisel)
Toldeo made in spain
Toldeo made in spain
Robt sorby cast steel england (kangaroo pictured)
The next one i could not read so i tried attaching a picture of the degraded emblem/logo n the hopes that someone can id it.
E.A Berg ESKILTUNA? (pic of a shak which looks very very similar to the bahco shark) Sweeden
Bright red handled bahco made in sweeden
ACE?
unknown?
TITAN
Buck Nickman? (last on the right)

Please let me know if any are keepers,
Oh and also, there is a whole bunch of VBW, Dufor and Dowidat (made in both australia and germany) tools, are these brands considered quality? (ie, worth keeping?)
thanks!

Dowidat definitely high quality.
As for the chisels - most are very good to excellent. All will be keepers if you want to restore them and give them a sharpen.
The last is Buck and Hickman, but I can't ID the mystery chisel. The logo seems familiar but the grey matter isn't co-operating.
Cheers

As SG says all will serve you well with a bit of invested time and effort cleaning, rehandlig, flattening, and sharpening.
I think Marples had a similar encircled logo to that one, although I'm not completely convinced.

The logo does look a lot like this version of Marples.
There is a nice list of who it isn't here:

Yes, I'll go with Marples as has been suggested.
The shape of the handle is very much from Marples as well.
Cheers

Great - can't even be right and be right.
Actually I am not conscious of having seen that Marples logo before.
I did see it within an hour or so after replying before - because there was an ebay auction with that on the handles. Maybe HiRoller saw the same one?
I don't think I have seen it printed/etched on the blade.

Here's another brand that uses a diamond (one of the socket BE chisels in my dad's set).

The diamond isn't truncated like the Marples logo, but the pitting has chewed up your logo to the point that I can't be sure it is the truncated version - it probably is, but here's another possibility to consider.

In regards to the titan chisel, i have noticed that there has been a decorative type pattern stamped along the chisel itsself (you can see it in the main photo barely) that looks like herringbone pattern but i have not really seen it in other titan chisels on the web, is that normal?
