I found the same thing with both my Stanley 4 and my Noris A2, I have to coaks them along by sliding the board back and forth under them (oh by the way I loooove my A2)

I have found that it helps to place a match stick under one end of the board to create a slope and start the plane at the high end of the board so it doesn't have to "climb" and I have no problems so far. On occasions I have had to give the plane a little "shove" to start it off.
Reality is no background music.
Cheers John
