I believe the plane is a pre WWII not sure on exactly on the type .. the lever cap is of the early unmarked variety if that helps.

It was a lot bigger once - you know how it is, buy boxes of bits that might come in handy one day .....
I don't have much left - some lever caps, some blades some frogs and the a jar of odds and sods. That is where I think I'll find the needed screw. I have got a couple of Record bodies and frogs that need handles and other parts as well as some assorted Stanley detritus.
It is nice to be able to help from time to time.

Toby, I've booked-marked those sites for next time, whilst the 4 1/2 is close to being finished I have a no 8 bailey that is next on my list and I'm sure they will be a great reference actually looking forward to this one the most it is a beast...

Scribbly, your a legend, PM'd my details just in case you manage to find one in your jar of bits.. more than happy to return the favour some day if I can..

Show us the fruits of your labor, some before and after pics would be nice.

OK so before pics would have been a great idea , I actually meant to take photos of both before but as usual I left my phone \ camera somwhere else and by the time I thought about it again my enthusiasm had gotten the better of me and they were already in the electrolysis bath... a real shame as they have both come along way from the rusty relics that they once were and some photos would have been great.. But here are some pics of the after at least , the no 8 is pretty much done now just needs some sole lapping though its pretty darn flat, I ordered a new tote from Jim Davey as the old one had been broken at some point and fixed with fibre glass of all things... the new one is made from new guinea rose wood and it both looks and feels great , so I'm now awaiting the second shipment of these for the the 4 1/2 and of course the lever cap screw courtesy of SG (thanks again!) , a quick polish of the brass nuts and I'll be all done and ready to make some serious shavings... enjoy the pics..
