    Default New LN 4 1/2

Plane: Look at me. I am a Lie Nielsen 4 1/2 with a High Angle Frog.

Tex: You are wonderful. You are the most wonderful thing I have ever seen. You take my breath away, and I weep at your magnificence. You are all that I need to live a fulfilled life.

    (contemplation, money changes hands)

Tex: Now youth, truth and beauty are mine. You complete me, and my collection of tools. I am a better person because you are in my workshop.

Plane: You are a nice bloke. I look forward to years of your hands on my knob and tote.

    Tex sighs, lost for words.

Maybe you should take it to bed to make sure it sleeps well......That's what my wife suggested when I bought a Veritas...

Don't forget to read it a story after you tuck it in...

Nice buy, Tex. The middle pitch (55 degrees) frog is a good add on, too.

    Nice plane.

Don't make a wimp out of it though, give it some good hard work otherwise it will look like one of those city 4WDs the wimps never take off the black stuff.

...mine LN LA block didn't turn out a happy ending...

In the WWW show...Lie nielsen stand...

Plane: Oh hi...I am THE LN LA block plane
Haosi: cool it's a shiny plane...

Plane: buy me...buy me...I am shiny and I have a great reputation being a LN plane...
Haosi: $259 and no discount soooo expansive!!

Plane: buy me...buy me...buy ...me...it's only $259....only $259, It is ONLY 1/4 the price of a decent table saw.
Haosi: MMmmm...YEA!!! It is only 1/5 the price of a table saw...ah why didn't i think of that.... not as expansive as I previously thought

At home 2 hours later after buying the the block plane...in the garage
After taking the plane out of it's box

    Plane:
....Warning: Bronze and bass alloys contain lead, a chemical know to state of californic to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
    Haosi: .........
20 minutes later after got over the fear of using the plane
    using the plane

plane: mate! careful!!!...not too hard. I am expansive!!! $259!!!! not just some Stanley plane...I cost $259...two hundred and fifty nine dollars!!!!!
Haosi: Two hundred....and fifty nine dollars!!!...sooooo expansive for such a ...small plane... HOPE IT'S WORTH IT !!

Plane: sorry mate...not feeling well today, can't plane properly for some reason...probably just dull blades...or that the timber is too hard. Sorry about that, guess you'll have to solve this problem yourself. Oh yea..btw spray some camellia oil on me to keep the rust away...gotta look good for the ladies...
    Haosi:.........

After purchasing the LN block plane Haosi has became the plane's slave, sharpening the blade only with the highest quality natural Japanese stones available to Haosi, Giving it the highest quality camellia oil available to man! (LN camellia oil),Planing wood with five star care and still trying to figure out the problem with it (can't plane end grain as well he thought it would) Haosi and the two hundred and fifty nine dollars without discount Lie Nielsen Low angle plane bought in the Melbourne Working With Wood show Lives happly ever after...While the wallet suffers the greatest punishment.

BTW...The LN LA block plane has it's own bed!!!!!!!!!!!!! and is not happy with the scratches left on the sole after testing on tassie blackwood.

    Haosi

my LN #60½ was quite happy planing tassie oak end grain yesterday
and it didn't demand anything special when I took it out of the box, not even a hone

as to the "lead" warning, I ignored it some time ago I came across a site explaining how the California legislature came close to banning the "dangerous" chemical dihydrogenoxide — very dangerous stuff, it's implicated in the death of over 10,000 people every year.

1 try sharpening the blade, but usually LN blades are sharp enough for a play straight out of the box
2 try reducing the amount of blade showing to just a sliver, you should only just be able to feel the edge

It is one of life's wonders that something so plain and simple can look so good.
    Enjoy it.

That would suggest we have an addiction which we would like to overcome. I beleive most of the people here would agree that you can never have too many planes. Certainly Rob Lee does, otherwise why would he tempt us with a premium range after I have purchased so many Veritas products already. Why?, because he knows I'll buy more (dammit!).
And do I really need a complete set of Turners? Yes I Do!
And what about a set of Bedrock C's? I've started that already with a 608c (thanks SG)
Will I but a Marcou one day? That might be a stretch but I'll try.
So please, no more rehabilitation programmes here, most of us are comfortble with our addictions. (please don't tell my wife)

I bought the LN block plane a couple of yrs ago and showed my wife at the same time extolling the virtues of the gutsy feel, the polished brass and high quality blade etc.

Her reply was " for that price I want to see a motor on it"
Don't force it, use a bigger hammer.

Timber is what you use. Wood is what you burn.
