Plane chess?
I like it.
Do you think someone has enough Record block planes for the pawns?
And should the main pieces be bench-planes or should we use something more 'exotic'?We don't know how lucky we are......

Mmmmmm Shiny.
Nice job on the plane. Not bad for an hours work and 20 notes.
Waldo/Scrib - Thanks for the replies on the chisel. I wondered wetherit was a stanley but was surprised not to se any markings. Got to say though it has a lovely balance and feels very comfy might look out for more of these.

I think you've started something here - wouldn't it be a novel event at the next woodshow?! A daily plane-chess tournament.
Or for the less serious, how about a plane-draughts (checkers for the septics) game - you would only need two types, like Record blue vs. Stanley black, block planes for plain men & # 4s for 'kings'..........

Vices
Picked up a couple of vices today. Go the pair for $50 so was quite happy.
Anybody got any idea on the age of the 52? The chisel is a berg ($10)

Now for my weekend purchase of the electron burning variety. 140amp Arc Welder for $72 not as nice as that chisel for $10 or those vices but i need it for some mobile bases and machine stands.

Trammels!!
Hi, You like my new Trammels? I couldn't believe they are usually so expensive, So I looked around & got these for less from the US, and I like the fact I can use leads Cool micro adjustment too They look ancient. Any ideas on age? They're aluminium or some sort of alloy. In the box, after a good half an hour of trying to decipher the faint lettering says
"The Bennett ... co ...
Dreav.... Instruments
1510 Chestnut Street
Philadelphia"
Dots being how many letters I think the missing letters are; and I've underlined what I'm not sure about.
Beautiful tool though, don't you think?
Regards, Dane

Hi Dane,
I think this might be the company, this is an ad from an 1893-1894 suppliers catalog
Someone might know more, but I have a feeling that Aluminium was considered a pretty exotic and expensive material for a long time, I imagine these were top of the line drafting tools.
Nice score!

Ray
Having a go at the missing letters..
