Hi Luban. Can you give any details on how the blade adjuster works. Looks an awesome find.

Hi Planemaker
The Depth adjustment looks to me like a cut down section of an old brass tap, it only adjusts down (withdrawing the adjuster does not retract the blade) that is it just pushes from the top of the blade. the cut tap (or old brass hose end? whatever it once was) is not threaded it just slides over the brass threaded rod, The fawcet winds down to advance the blade and the wing nut winds down over that to lock it all up. Very basic and Very effective once set and locked up there is no way that blade is moving.
The lateral adjustment is more akin to a couple of bolts fitted after the fact to stop the blade moving when in use, again simple but effective.
The more I ponder this plane the more I think I'd like to make my own version. I'd like to keep it as close as possible but from one blank rather than two laminated boards and drop the lateral screws (what I'll call them for now) down to the body of the plane and recess them so that the right one doesn't foul the shooting board and require a groove. At any rate I think I have decided against using this one.. looks like I have officially hit that second damned slope it's in the house awaiting a shelfBest regards, Luban

..........ooh and i just remembered i picked these up on ebay a few weeks back
I've recently become interested in and started acquiring old screwdrivers now.
The flat blade mathiesons are 10.75" & 15" long and worked out about $30/pair inc local post and the same lengths for the sorbys $24/pair inc posted this time from UK. The sorbys have the kangaroo stamp on the other side.
more so though I'm interested in dating these if someone can help.
cheers again,

Nothing to show but something to tell.
My dad popped around this arvo. "I've got some stuff for yer". Here we go more of mum's stuff that she want's us to ebay. "We've got too much stuff" I say. "Ok I'll off then". Dad starts pulling the stuff out and he has an almost new Triton Mk3 sawbench and router table. "what's all this?"
Turns out dads mate is clearing out some old stuff. A Triton kit is good but then out comes the top stuff. A really nice looking box appears and it's heavy.
I open the lid and I get that feeling that you see when they open a treasure chest in the movies. Sitting in front of me in this custom made box is a full Stanley No55 combination plane with about 40 cutters. A little bit of rust (only a little bit) and timber fences (rosewood?) with barely a sign of wear. Needless to say dad did not take this old stuff home again.
It's made in the US. Has a B cast into the main body. I'm unsure if its age. The instruction book has a 1940 copyright. That's as close as I have to a date of production.
I've just come in from the garage after giving it a good going over. I've pulled everything apart, oiled all the screws, dropped a few bits into some Evaporust and hit everything else with a dose of G15.
It'll stay in the box now until I have my bench squared away. Dunno when I'll find a use for it but it's a nice bit of kit to have when the need arises.
Dad says that his mate might have a bit more old junk to get rid of. I'm looking forward to it.
Cheerio,
Virg.

You get a yellow card for posting that without pics!
Its always good to hear of tools ending up somewhere they'll be put back to work, rather than decorating a collector's shelf.Cheers, Richard
