I have an Eclpise 77. I was thinking of using some angle iron in a vice before I saw your pics on the saw chops Philip.

I think that this may turn out to be a handy saw. I have 3 I bought on ebay for $1.00 that I will play with before I let loose on it. Although the pics I posted don't' really show it, some of those teeth are really odd shapes. Some are shaped like shark fins and others are like equilateral triangles. Obviously a home job.

I get the TPI stuff Ian. It makes sense if every one is on the same page

Thanks for the advice I've been getting on this. Lots of good information here

Keep an eye on the Traditional Tools Groups website (The Traditional Tools Group (Inc.)) for saw sharpening workshops in 2012. They're usually held at Asquith. Being on the central Coast, you're probably closer than I am down in the Shire. Always a good day and you'll walk away with a sharp saw.

    Cheers,
    Virg.

Two from the weekend. $25 for the scraper (which is in the process of being refinished and has come up rather well) and this little plane for $10. Not sure of the origin (id anyone?) or what's missing, I kind of think it should get some infills and be made pretty . It does however take a decent shaving already.

I tend to push with my palm at the back of the cap, and it has a tendency to pop up midstroke. frustrating, and as a result I don't reach for it first.

I think that you have the makings of an infill chariot plane here Andrew.
These are pretty much block planes that look very pretty.
There are plenty of beautiful examples around for inspiration.

That's what I was thinking it should look like when I saw it looking lonely on the shelf. Thanks for the examples SG, I have some work ahead of me to get it as nice as those ones.

Now that the auction has ended and I won it with the only bid, (woo hoo for spelling errors!) I'll show you this:
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

Stanley 4 1/2 type 13 (still no raised ring around the knob, U.S. PAT. APR-19-10 is the only thing behind the frog, etc.)\

$25 seems like a pretty great price to me. It just arrived today and it looks pretty good. I've got a Type 11 No.6 as well, and I reckon there's something about the older Stanleys that just feels better - smoother blade depth adjustment, less slop, maybe a bit heavier? etc.

The only bummer is the broken handle. Were these made of Rosewood? The photo on the ebay ad doesn't do justice to how pretty the wood is!

    Cheers
