My "MUJI" experience
Hi all,
Well I bought a muji !!!!
Now I am Sgt Schulz when it comes to handplanes "I really know nozing!"
Anyway took him out of his box, put him together, and set him as per the instructions off the forums.
Grabbed a piece of tassie oak.
Used him in the pull towards you mode like the japanese seem to and "Hey this thing works"........check out pics!!
Now I need to learn how to sharpen and Fettle him but I think he can join in the menage a trois with the TSC10HB!!! mmmmmmmm
cheers

Routermaniac,
I saw one at the markets, with western style chip breaker and side rods for $22.
PM me if you want it.
Cheers,

When I bought mine from supatoolsonline, they told me that the importer was ceasing imports of mujis for some reason, BUT that they were liaising with the manufacturer to import directly. That means that they would probably carry a bigger range than the three that usually seem to be on offer.
Not sure if this has progressed anymore, but we can all keep our fingers crossed.

I got a Muji smoother the other day, straight out of the box it cut soooo fine, and that was without taking any time on the blade. I was playing and actually managed to set it amazingly fine, although only on one side. I was seeing a 'polished' strip over the rough cut produced by my other plane. The polished section was the muji's cut, where the blade was 'canted'.
My first reaction was - "Wow, look at that shaving, thats a fluke" then another fluke, then another...
Now to figure out where the 'tap' points are in relation to moving the blade.
My bodgy eyes can't see the detail of where the blade is protruding, in order to 'visually' set it up, and I have to run it over a piece of wood, look for the 'polish', then tap and check, tap and check, and learn from trial and error.
When I actually know what I am doing, and have sorted the blade I am sure it will be a great addition to the tool kit.
I found this for Mujingfang ... http://www.japanwoodworker.com/dept.asp?dept_id=12915

Since they've run out of Muji's, I'll just have to be happy with this one which Mrs Gumby bought recently at a local market. 440mm long. I think I'll call him 'Big Daz'
