Wish I did Ive been trying to get a high angle smoother for months. The aussie stockists dont carry them and the american sites want an arm and 2/3 of a leg.

I haven't tried the hong kong phone book... I'll give that a shot, but I don't know how successful it will be as I don't speak cantonese or read chinese! I have googled extensively without anything.
I am after more than a few, so ebay isn't going to cut it...

I had the impression that MuJingFang "factory" is a cluster of "subcontractors", like for example families specialized in working with timbers, carving, metalwork, marketing etc.
But it seems to be that there is at least some kind of evidence about actual production facilities, please see the link:

The only HA on ebay I've seen was the palm smoother. Which Carbatec also stocked btw so maybe they can tell you who wholesales in Australia. Or maybe the ebay seller would do a special order for you Jisk.

Do a search of the Forum. I posted all their Web site details about 6 months ago.
Good luck tho, I tried to order a few hundred planes and they didn't even reply.Bodgy

Bodgy, I had a good long search of your previous posts but I couldn't come up with the details, only one where you decided to make your own plane as you weren't having any luck getting in touch with them. Are you able to dig up the details for me? (Or provide some search terms that might help).
The hong kong phone book didn't help - I think mujingfang is a brand name, rather than company name.
Thanks,
James.

Thanks for the link Neil.
Looks as if their product line has expanded quite a bit. A more organised website as well. Their old website wasn't that easy to navigate.
Forum member keroucscabbie was selling some Mujingfang per post https://www.woodworkforums.com/showpo...4&postcount=15
Maybe if there's enough interest, we can organize a group buy through him.
I'll be interested in some planes myself.
Cheers

Having had a good look at their site, it seems like it is targeted at business to business clients. It would be possible to approach them if you could raise enough interest.
I would pretend to be a hardware store in Australia, asking them for a price/quantity list. Then take it from there. The only problem I would see is that you would need to order less than a $1000 of stuff, to avoid taxes. This may put you under their minimum order size. However the number of planes you could buy for a $1000 would be possible as much as 50 to 100 planes depending on size and timber. The other challenge would be the cost of shipping.
I will admit some reservation regarding timbers used in some of these tools, many are endangered, or are sourced from places like indonesia were sustainable forest management is a joke.
I have used one of their gouges, for ruff or large work it was a more then passable tool.
They also sell waterstones, they would be a great cheap way to build up a sharpening station. They seem to natural stones.
Looking at it, if the price is right I would be into picking up a set of stones.
I am trying to get rid of planes, so I need to resist getting involved in getting more.

G'day Helmut,
I actually contacted them once to get some planes some time last year. Since they are a manufacturer, each export will incur a USD $180 government fee.
As you've said, to be exempted from taxes, the total cannot exceed AUD $1000. So, with that fee included, it wasn't viable for an individual.
But, I wasn't getting 50 to 100 planes for AUD $1000.
I have since bought my set of HK style 45 degree bed Smoother, Jack, Trying and High Angle Palm Smoother elsewhere. Their Hollows and Rounds set, Plow and Long Rebate plane would be cool.

There is actually a Sydney based retailer who is trying to organise an order of these planes, but he is having a bit of trouble finding reliable & affordable agents to handle the commercial paperwork, fumigation etc.
If any of you lads (and lad-ettes) have details of reliable etc agents, let me know & I will forward the details to the retailer.
I will post any good news when I get it.
