I dunno either Rob. I like nothing better that to share some shed time with my adult son who is a tradie. He looks after his gear so I have no worries that he'll disrespect my stuff. I treasure my alone time in the shed, but like to work with someone or a few people from time to time, and that means sometimes sharing the gear.

Yeah, I understand and I like the same , there is a lot of people who have had access to my tools when I have not been around , I let them . Most of the time its good, specially the times where we share and let other people have a go of something they would never own, and they appreciate it, and understand what they have in their hands. Or what they have shared with me , and I have learned and appreciated something that is different. Its great!
Some times it goes bad though. Two things I had went missing a long time ago, taken and not returned . That got me going Hot !
Then there were the countless times tools were borrowed and not returned and I had to go searching. Or there was one or two guys who got into the bad habit of taking my sharp tools rather than sharpen their own.

There is , as you would know , a line that a sensible person should not cross. some people do though .
The sign wont stop anything , it just makes the people who understand have a laugh I think .

Which brings up a nice segway Rob about how you set up the #75. I had a new English #75 that never worked out of the box, which seems to be a common issue. I eventually looked it over and found the castings to be rough and the bed for the iron not square to the sole so I did a little fettling to smooth things up. I did not touch the toe at that time.

After smoothing out the castings the plane cut ok for the little bit of window frame rebate I had to clean up at the time. I have since read the toe should be higher than the sole of the body to lead into the cut. On my plane the toe is now lower than the body, probably because it dropped when I filed off the lumps on the plane bed casting. BUT as it stands it does cut! I have been intending to try lapping the toe down so it has the proper configuration, but I haven't decided how far to take it.

If you had a sweetly tuned #75, albeit having gone walkabout, I'd love to know how much gap did the toe have above the sole?

I think My first one was English , I got it new in its box . I don't remember raising the toe . I think I just smoothed the toe and sole together on some sand paper while they were together with the blade raised or out , and gave the leading edge of the toe a small ramp . Then I buffed it to a shine. I think the 75 had a habit of just stopping at the slightest bump in front of it. I do the same with my Stanley spoke shaves that do the same. It hurts when a flip happens ! The 75 is not a tool that I would reach for much . Used before glass goes in, on the rebate on the inside of cabinet doors . I also used to go for it for the small rebate when cleaning up for new leather in desk tops. I find the Stanley 98 and 99 better though.
The replacement I bought arrived in the mail filled with lead ! I used it that way then took it out . I don't think it made any difference.
