What oil to use in lapping a plane.
I managed to pick up a Veritas lapping plate that has never been used. I also have the 90x lapping grit.
I took a look at the website for the instruction on what to do for the first time in use. I am fine with the process just not sure on the actual oil. I have Camellia oil that I purchase from the supermarket and was thinking of using this.
Those that have used a lapping plate would this Camellia oil be sufficient for lapping and later storing the lapping plate in a seal container?
Thank you

I cant see Camelia oil being a problem it will aid in rust protection for sure. I just read an article that suggests you give it a clean after in water and detergent but that would mean needing to dry it thouroghly before putting it away. I suggest you just wipe it down get all the swarf and crap out and then give it a good spray with Camelia oils and store it in the airtight container

I'd be inclined to use kerosene or a mix of very light machine oil and kero -- that way you wont need to use an airtight container
