Well there you go - pretty much what I surmised. Look up 'stair saws' & you'll see minor variations on the same theme.

Mat, there's a superficial resemblance to a veneer saw, for sure, but they usually have finer blades & no set...

    Cheers,
Please leave me alone, I'm in the study studying up on saws.

It seems you may have one of the last Gratsäge tools they made.

Hi Mick. I did contact Wolfgang and he sent me the image below from an Original Steiner 1859 catalogue ca. 1950. He confirmed that in English it is called a stair saw.

    Nice outcome.

You picked up an interesting saw, a bottle of German brew, all for the cost of three coffee and cake sittings.

Plus, you have some authentication and now know what it is exactly.

That saw looks like it cuts on the pull?

    It does.

This is not a tool related question but may have some connection with the information posted on Laupheimer Werkzeugfabrick. I have found these two canoe paddels that have a decal that says "Laupenheimer Paddel" with ALW in a round logo. The question is when they were produced and where? I can not find ANY other information about them so anything will be appreciated!

    Thanks!DSCF6714.JPGDSCF6715.JPGDSCF6713.JPGDSCF6716.JPG
