    Default Panel Raising Plane

    Ciao,
I just completed this panel raising plane and I would want to share my satisfaction.
I have to admit, this plane required more attention, due to skewed geometries and the need of crossgrained cuts.
Inspiration comes to me from a 1934 Italian planemaker catalogue, from this plane in particular:

Therefore, I used lamellar beech, wengè and cherry (handle) for making this panel raiser:

The main blade is marked "Stella Bianca" (Italy), found as new old stock. It's bedded at 50° with 25° skew angle
The plane weights 1,8 Kg and cuts very well. A great satisfaction!

    Ciao,
    Giuliano

    Beautiful Giuliano!

I've been thinking about a design for a panel raiser too and yours looks like a fantastic version.

Edit: I just checked out the article and video on your site. I hadn't realised there were four separate cutting parts! That must have been a nightmare to plan out. Is setting difficult?

    Bravo

...I'll just make the other bits smaller.

    Grazie Matt,
No, isn't too much difficult to plane out, if you first make the body and then adapt cutting irons to profiles. The position of nickers is a critical point, but not more difficult than for a moving fillitster plane.

    Ciao,
    Giuliano

Did you anneal and re-harden the file you used for the small cutter, Giuliano? It certainly seems to cut well.

I shaped the file by bench grinder without anneal it. Only I soak it frequently in cold water while the job is progressing. When my thumb, kept near the edge, cannot stay there (too much heat), I know it is necessary stopping the job and cool.
