Called Dave at Sutton's about the heat treating thin Chisels
Dave said that their will be no problem heat treating the chisels, the price is at 12 a kg. He can also do $2 cryogenics.
Would people be interested in getting the chisel cryogenically treated?
Called Warren at Bohler to confirm a price for an 800 x 3.5 x 1500 mm M2 sheet
Bohler will get more 800 x 3.5 x 1500 mm M2 sheet in stock at get at the end of the month will get us price at the end of the month. Warren however said the price should be very stable.
Called Turners to see if simpler shape can be turned on a copy lathe.
All the Turning company's have said that they will need to turn the handles by hand, to get the details we want. The average price for turning a handle by hand is $6. If we can simplify the design and get it turned on a copy lathe we can maybe get the per handle price down a little.
Would people be interested in getting the a simpler chisel handle shape if we can get it turned on a copy lathe?
Still need to Call Ivan and John and Confirm grinding cost for Chisels
Ground to the Top and Bottom Bevels + Edge Bevels
Ground to the Top and Bottom Bevels + Edge Bevels + Cutting Bevel
Still need to call Water jet Cutters about price, and number of sets we can get from a sheet.
As soon as I confirm the prices for the grinding and how many set's we can get per sheet. I will start the ball rolling.
Sawdust - The pen is lovely, It sits on a shelf just above my desk. I need to make a little holder so it can sit on my desk.

Hi Helmut,
Looks like handles are getting close to finalised. Could you put me down for the Sally Wattle as first choice if it goes ahead and if not the Gidgee.
I would be interested in the cryo treat
Thanks

The cryo treating of the chisels is supposed to do good things to the steel according to LN, I'm happy to go along with that. As for the chisel handles the original design looked good, but JackE was one who thought a fairly minimilist style was better, in the vein of Harold and Saxon I think which would surely go easily over a copy lathe. What do others think, I'm open to either.

Hi there,
Just found this thread. Could you put me down for an Option 5 if I'm not too late? I'm easy on the species of timber.
Thanks,

I found out what cryogenic-ally treated metal is. Now that I have a little better understanding I say ok from me.

Simpler design is ok with me. Keep in mind to not change the dimension too much.

I'm happy with both the cryo treatment and simpler handles.

Cyro's good for me, and I'd be happy with a simpler handle a la H&S.
Also like to change my timber preference to Tassie Blackwood (to match my new Vesper marking set)
