I got details back from the waterjet cutters.
The price for waterjet cutting is the same for a 150 and a 250 mm long blade.
I got an estimate for how many set they could get out of a sheet.
They are saying that they can get 20 to 22 sets out of a sheet. What was not clear is do they mean 20 to 22 sets for a single sheet or both sheets.
I will call to confirm.
The quotes for waterjet are coming in. I am glad to report that they are within my estimates.
Stay Tuned.

I have been cleaning up the spreadsheet.
It looks like Tiger Myrtle, Blackwood and then Ringed Gidgee are the top Timber Picks.
We have 5 spare sets at 150 mm long blades and 2 sets at 250 mm long blades.
We have a total 264 chisels ordered, and 272 brass ferrules. This means that we have reached enough people to leverage the economics of scale.
So it looks like the chisel order is going ahead.
We will start the production of chisel order, within the next two weeks.
I will call all third parties, tomorrow to confirm the quotes.
*EDIT*
I found someone today who has a huge block a budgeroo, that is nice and dark, and as dense as hell. I am sure I could get it for a good price. Their should be enough budgeroo to make at least 5 sets of handles. Here s a bowl that TITT turned from Budgeroo.

LOL - budgeroo is nice stuff. I am talking with someone on the forum to strike a deal for handles. I will know more by the weekend.
I hope to make a deal for some Gidgee, Dead Finish, Budgeroo and Sally Wattle (aka Black Wattle) very much like Blackwood.
Here is a photo of dead finish.
And here is Sally Wattle.
Sawdust Maker, I do not know what happened but I have added you back in.

I spoke to Warren Spencer today, and he said that it is the "silly season" in Sweden, so he cannot get me an exact price on the steel. However he said that the price $1174.5 for a 1500 x 3.5 x 800 mm should be very stable.
The water jet cutter is programming to find the exact number of set's they could get out of a single sheet. A sheet, should give us about 14 to 20 sets per sheet. I will know exactly, by next week.
Nicole from Parish Engineering's is working on a quote for the brass ferrules. Now that we know we need 280 in total, however the price should also be solid.
I will have prices fixed by the end of next week. However the price is looking very stable.
I am trying to get more quotes from a wood lathe companies. However they have all said that the handles will need to be turned by hand, they say that they cannot turn the details on a CNC lathe. I have been quoted at about $6 per handle even if it is being hand turned. I will contact them to see if we can, simplify the handle, by removing the decorative bedding. This may make the handles able of being turned on a CNC lathe.
We have 2 sets at 150 mm chisels blades left.

Helmut,
I would selfishly like to suggest simplifying the handles to look just like this one
If you stay with a design similar to the pic in your first post I would probably change the option on my order to just the chisels and ferrules and make the handles myself.
No offence, it's just that the handle design doesn't appeal to me.
If possible, if you have a source for some nicely figured tiger maple I would still like to purchase enough from you to make the handles, it is very difficult to source nice timber in Longreach."There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark."

Hi Helmut,
Sorry to take so long to respond - I didn't realise you had started a new thread.
Please put me down for Option 6.
I'm not too fussed about what wood the handles are - if you need a choice I'd go for Blackwood or R. Gidgee
Thanks,
Geoff

Jack E - No matter what style we choose we would end up up with a design which would not satisfy everyone. That is why we have the option 3 and 4, so that you can make your own handles. As for sourcing handle timber for you, we can make some kind of arrangement.
gimjam, I have added you to the list.

Is this the Myrtle we're talking about?
I've got a house with jarrah as a feature and will be building most of my furniture out of it as well (Yeah, it's a tough life ). I'm also fettling some old bedrock planes and disston saws with Jarrah handles, so I'd like these chisels to stand out a little amongst all this. Got a preference for something lighter, and Myrtle looks good and seems popular with others.
So, can I please change my wood choice to Myrtle, or whatever the group selects that is similar - just so long as it doesn't look like jarrah (This feels blasphemous somehow).
On another note, I may be interested in a number 4 set as well. Any still available?
Cheers and Cold Beers to all.
OGSome give pleasure where ever they go, others whenever they go!
