Thread: Second Paring Chisel Batch Order

And once he returns, what are the anticipated timeframes then? I know that you have suggested that these chisels are going to be the last items to be done, is that still the case?
In some ways, it's not so much the time it's taking, although that is becoming more of a factor, it's more the lack of information and the having to follow three different threads to try and work out what is happening.

Well, I'm still waiting for my final Stanley replacement blade from Ray. That was promised 6 months ago - I was "first cab off the rank" - to quote Ray. From my understanding in April the bevel was all that needed grinding.
Really, I appreciate Ray is busy - but we all are - and that these runs are done in addition to usual work, family commitments etc, and even that this thread isn't really the place to mention the Stanley blade order because its the paring chisel order.
However, without meaning that as an attack on anyone, good communication for these orders is the thing thats most important given the complexity of the process, geographic separation, and the logistics involved.
.....And I just want my final stanley replacement blade.

As far as I know, that being what Ray has told me is that the:
- Turning tools need their bevels ground (all other face are done).
- The two missing Stanley blades need their bevels ground (all other face are done).
- Planes blades for wooden planes need their bevels ground (all other face are done).
I am not privy to the logic of how Ray is surface grinding. Remember their are over 400 items, your few items are only a bight out of a very large elephant. I can only guess that the grinding of the bevels has been pushed back so they could be done all at once, because bevels would require setting up the surface grinder with angling jigs/holders. If you have never done this, setting up a surface grinder/milling machine is a monster job. Ray is not grinding bevels on some back yard bench grinder.
We should, I hope see quick movement on finishing the paring chisels and then the firmer chisels, once RayG returns.

I have not accused anyone of being a backyard shyster and I understand the logic behind doing this as a job lot.
The point I am making is that the above info would assist everyone who has made a financial investment in this project to know what is happening. Others might well have a differing viewpoint on this, but I don't think it unreasonable to expect a certain level of communication.
To have to keep chasing info across different threads then surmise what is happening is disappointing.
And to then be told that there will be a message sent to everyone and six days later still nothing is rubbing salt into the wound.

Second Paring Chisel Batch Order
Helmut,
Is it possible to get a detailed run down on what is still yet to be done with the paring chisels?
How much grinding is completed and what grinding is yet to be done?
Once the grinding is finished, what has to be done then?

As I posted to everyone on the 19th (via PM)
Hello All
I have now received an update from RayG, who informs me that as far as grinding goes, that Ray and his son Josh have started picking up where they left off before going to Austria.
Ray is however reluctant to put a timetable on postage until "I see how the operation goes".
I have nothing beyond this, as soon as RayG gets back to me with an ETA I will pass it on to you.
Helmut
As soon as RayG tells me something I will tell you. Short of going over to his house and shoving a gun in one of his unmentionable orifices , what can I do?

I do but not in the list I copied the names from to send pms from. The list is for those who paid something in this batch order is a concatenation of other lists, so you are not in that list, but I have not forgotten you, well the main list still has you and the 8 who are due special 12 mm chisels.

Second Paring Chisel Batch Order
I read that message, that was what prompted my questions. This reply adds little I'm afraid to what is known already.
I simply wanted to know what grinding has been done thus far and what is still to be done.
I am not asking you to commit any atrocities upon RayG, just wanting a detailed update of what's still left to do.
If there is a reason why information re the grinding will not or cannot be provided, could we at least get an explanation why not?

Hi Ray123,
Don't hassle Helmut, the current delay is down to me.
Since getting back from Austria, I've been in Hospital. Just got out on Sunday and still recovering from the surgery. ( Had a good visit with the specialist today and feeling better everyday )
I will open up the workshop tomorrow and take a few pictures of the current stage of the various projects.
Regards
Ray

Second Paring Chisel Batch Order
Ray,
Sorry to hear that you were in hospital, and hope that whatever the reason, it's all fixed.
Don't rush the recovery by going out to the workshop, thanks for posting though.
