Default Parkinson's Perfect Vise - Quick release

I recently picked up a quick release Parkinson's Perfect vise, however it's missing the half nut. I have found a picture of a Parkinson's half nut on line and have attached it for the readers reference.

I have a record 52 1/2 and the looks like the half nut from it would fit the perfect vise. Please note that I did a couple of basic measurements and did not want to pull the record part to find out for sure

Does any one know where I could get a half nut like the one depicted in the picture above? At this stage I'm willing to try any brand, I just want to see this old vice being put back into use again.

I appreciate any help that the readers can provide.

    Cheers

    Hi bunya pine
It also looks like a Dawn quick release No7 1/2 nut. These can be sourced from their office in Melbourne. Dawn have stopped making the quick release vice and don't have any of the bronze nuts left, but do have some of the the cast iron ones.

I found a couple of posts here & here about my experiences trying to source a half nut. If this doesn't help there's bound to be some who knows about your vice coming all Ng soon.

thanks for your advice, I read your old posts and contacted Dawn and they have one nut left in stock. When I said it was for a Parkinson's Vice, the guy I was talking to said that they have been through this numerous times and these nuts only fit dawn vices. They said they have had people trying to fit them to record vices, Parkinson's and many other brands and they have not succeeded.

So for anyone out there with a dawn vice that requires the the half nut for the quick release mechanism or as Dawn call it the "wood workers nut for a quick action - part number 65260" get in quick because there is only one left!

I will go back to the drawing board and keep looking for another old broken Parkinson vice where I can salvage the parts I need.

    Cheers

I have something similar ... I don't know who knocked off who with these things ...

It was a surprise garage sale find locally.

It certainly looks like that Dawn block. The threads on mine are 4 turns per inch,

and measuring on the angled "face" of each thread ... 21mm total width of thread and 17mm in the "valley"

Ok, I can see some differences. If you thought this one might match yours,

maybe BobL might be convinced to try some casting in his furnace ????

    Cheers,

Sorry I haven't replied earlier, the powers' still off here.
I got a similar response from Dawn regarding my problem. The issue was that the relacement nut was too long for the vice. The thread was ok and the notched leg was close enough. So I took the punt and ordered one and trimmed it down to size with an angle grinder. So far no problems.

Very close. The post is round as opposed to the Record's which is square. The threads look worn too which may be why its not in a vice.

    Talking

    Team

I'm excited to report that I have found a parkinson nut and it's in the mail! It has been taken out of a working vice that had some damage to the jaws.

I will post photos when I get the part and start the restoration. I appreciate everyone's help and look forward to reading everyone else's posts!

    Cheers

    Bunya
