I don't think it's a SSL/TSL and certificate issue. It is a really basic site and isn't coded with anything fancy I'd think. Certificates and such only come into play if identities are being swapped digitally. I don't think snail mail ordering and payment counts.

Out of interest, who's your ISP ?

ISP is TPG. Dont mention to my 13 year old as its tooooo sssslllllllloooooowww for him.

I emailed Patrick re the problem & he has responded

" It's you lads down under, and no one else (best
as I can tell), who are having problems.

It's either a case of the electrons losing their
oomph heading downhill to you guys, or the fact that
whomever holds the master key to Australia's DNS
servers hasn't updated them with my new IP address.

My money is on the latter as guys can fix the
problem by turning off their router/modem, let it
sit for a minute or two, power in back on, and,
presto, it's like having me gnawing at your ear.

Give pause whether you want to fix it or not, as
    many find me irritating. ;^)

Must be Bigpond for I have no problems, and haven't had any at all.

Maybe because I 'm with Optus.

I'm on Bigpond Cable. I find access to the site is intermittent, some days yes, others no, which leads me to suspect Telstra have a server somewhere that is playing up. We don't always go through the same DNS servers.

If you think you are experiencing a DNS issue, try one the free public alternatives.

If using your ISP's setting automatically, you will need to manually over-ride them.
Just exactly where will depend on your setup.
Start with your internet connection and work backwards ie modem/router/'puta.

You could try opendns. Don't know much about the settings. Google their website for info.
    Or
You could try google dns. Yep they're taking over world one byte at a time.
Primary IP is 8.8.8.8 and secondary is 8.8.4.4

Unsure of terms, conditions, tricks and traps. But both are considered trustworthy.
You may need to flush DNS cache too.

Still think it is more likely to be routing or local security though.
There are no current reports of DNS problems on Whirlpool.

I tried the google DNS over a month ago and the problem I was having went away. Later I tried the Bigpond server again and it appeared to be fixed. I am still having some bother with accessing a time server and an anti-virus server, but only occasionally. The only way I can figure it is there are multiple DNS servers that BP uses and routers switch you to them based on load. One of them is playing up and customers are playing DNS roulette.

    I am with BP adsl.

After problems a few months ago, I had no problem accessing the PL site/s until about a couple weeks ago ... pretty much when the latest tool-list came out ... and then nothing.

When the posts about tracert came out I tried that and had similar results ... dns was fine ... always gave the address. Ping gave nothing. Tracert took about 30 steps and bombed at his server - as you described.

At the same time, although I could easily access amazon.com + ebay websites, ping returned nothing from either or supertool.com.

From about last friday onwards ... no problem!
When it was being a problem I had tried the modem on/off but no change.
When it sorted out, I hadn't got around to cycling it again yet.

Now supertool.com is accessible, tracert works to the end and it pings at 300ms. Ebay and amazon don't ping at all ... maybe a security thing?

    Thanks,
    Puzzled,
    Paul McGee

I've just done some ftraces and pings

an ftrace to www.supertool.com, gets, on the 21st hop, to "regus-business-centre.demarc.cogentco.com [38.104.6.158]" then times out

when I ping regus-business-centre.demarc.cogentco.com, the address is resolved as 199.101.28.130

when I ftrace 199.101.28.130, the site resolves as www.bigpondsitehelp.com
    regards from Alberta, Canada

    Hi Ian
I'm not much good on the computer stuff, but does that mean that the problem is with the Blood & Gore site? It seems to me that people from across the country are having intermittent problems accessing his site.

Trace route to cogentco is normal.
cogentco is a global entity that sells wholesale to smaller ISPs and webhosting companies. The trail ends but does not report as unreachable. This is "positive".

www.bigpondsitehelp.com is NOT bigpond. I think it's legit but not what you think. Based in US and presumably inside cogentco's cloud. Working backwards doesn't always yield the result you might expect.

I recommend anyone with problems browsing supertool (or any internet site) and has ruled out ther own firewall/virus/internet security and personal settings, should hop over to the whirlpool forums and post in the "is this site/service down" thread. It's in the "on the internet" board.

You'll need to register first at www.whirlpool.net.au (nope it's not about whitegoods).

The wiki/knowledge base has instructions for this particular thread as well as some handy info and links to try.

Main thing is you have to report your own issue and leave others to report their's.

I find some initial whirpool forum and site navigation a bit strange and often start with a search when I can find it. Once your into the threads it's just another forum.

Whirlpool is populated by thousands of experts and regulars. More brains may help.
