    Angry Pings me off!

    G'day,

This gives me the total carps!

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Vintage-Recor...QQcmdZViewItem

This seller on eBay has a second hand "Vintage Record 04 Wood Plane Original Box", maybe so, but you scroll down further to read, "Australian Bidders Only! Please be aware a condition of sale within Australia is that 10% GST will be added to the final bid. Please read our terms and conditions of payment before you bid. A tax invoice is supplied with every item sold within Australia. ABN: 12 292 202 988"

So I sent the idiot a terse question for seller to remind him/her that GST doesn't apply to 2nd hand items!. Really pings me off that.

Guess he's had this pointed out to him in the past, and isn't interested in knowing.

Sorry Waldo, but I think you will find that if he is GST registered he has to collect it. He's probably a secondhand shop.

Not so mon ami, if so I have given the ATO far too much money over the last 2 years.

Tax is collectable and payable on second hand goods if the seller is a registered business.

Even if I sold my yoot second hand, as a registered business I am supposed to collect gst, sucks dosent it?

It sounds to me as though he's found a way to suck an extra 10% profit from all his sales!

I've never seen any other seller on ebay with that condition. I presume they all deduct the gst from their final selling price?

That's why I dislike commercial enterprises using Ebay to flog goods - Ebay Stores, sure, but not in the auction area. There are some categories not even worth looking at for all the commercial crap. 5000 auctions all finishing at 1pm etc, and not a decent item among them.

At least where I have bought from a commercial operation on Ebay, the bid price includes GST - this guy is unusual.

But only if it is owned (aka stock) of the business. Otherwise you'd have to collect GST if you sold your (private) car, house etc. (Given that you have an ABN)

But you would have claimed a credit for the GST paid on the ute when you bought it.

If you go to a traditional auction, they usually put GST on top of the final price. It's not unusual. It's just that most people selling on eBay in the past have been private individuals. But now that businesses have found they can flog stuff for a good price, you'll see it more and more.

    G'day,

    Well I'll stand corrected.

But it's not too smart of the seller if you ask me (unless his/she is turning over more than 50K per annum), selling the plane and on the total sale price having to knock 40% before he makes any money (30% tax - depending on tax rate + GST)

But why isn't the 10% applicable on all his/her items? Sounds very sus to me.
