Default Another plane to add to my little arsenal of planes

I just picked this up tonight it is a Stanley 13-052 combination plane. It probably isn't a collectable but i am not worried. Can anybone tell me where I can gind irons for it as it only came with a 12mm iron. Does the irons for the 50 combination plane fit this plane and if anyone can tell me where can i find them apart from ebay i would be very greatful.

I can send you some photos of the blades mine has if you want to compare against the no 50 ones has.

Buying a complete set (with the plane) via eBay may be cheaper than sourcing individual blades.

    Regards.

Hi That would be awesome Adam if you can pop them up in this thread that would be cool can you let me know the length of your 12mm one then I can compare it to mine with a vernier caliper as the notches for the height adjuster i have seen on the ones on ebay they look the same as this one and I can not find the part number apart from the size on the beveled side of the iron for the iron width, the part number is probably under that surface rust.

The full sets of blades I’ve seen on eBay weren’t cheap. I was only looking for a few to complete the set for a 55 I was given, and for individuals, postage becomes an issue. I was able to have them posted to my son-in-law in the US and collected them when visiting.

I’m pretty sure that the Veritas ones from Lee Valley will also fit, and you can combine with some other toys to make the most of the shipping costs.

From the instructions they may be in sequential order. You can try looking up similar part numbers

Cheers for that Adam much appreciated mate, I just measured the iron in my plane and it came in at 87mm so only 0.58 difference but may have been my measuring as I measured it while it was in the plane using the depth measuring rod on my vernier caliper so yes it will work. Also I have lapped all of that rust off the surface of the iron on an old sharpening stone and it was only on one side and then trued up the bevel and sharpened it using my plane and chisel sharpening jig as it looked like it had been sharpened unevenly by the guy I got it from when you looked down the bevel and could not cut to save itself, gave it a whirl on an offcut of 4x2 after sharpening and planed a 8mm deep groove into it and it is an absolute weapon I love it. I paid $40NZ for the plane so in the last week I have spent $120 on planes as I bought a brand new fuller #4 from mitre10 for $40, then I won an auction on a 19 year old Stanley handyman series 12-205 (sells new for $200 here in NZ) for $40 so I am a happy camper and will be even happier when I can get some more irons for the combination plane even if it is only the ones for dadoes and rebates.

Very nice. I bought my 12-050 From @toymasterLen from this forum mid last year.

It took a little bit of worth to get the risk out but they came out pretty nice. It's missing only two blades so should more than cover anything I'll need it for.

    Regards.

I just googled "20mm 32 inch" and it pulled up some Forstner bits with 25/32 inch as the diameter.

    Hope this helps.

I guess only us old blokes are comfortably bilingual when it comes to Imperial & Metric units, eh?

Twenty mm is sort of betwixt & between the 'regular' Imperial fractions. It's closer to 3/4" (19.05mm) than 7/8" (22.25mm), but not a precise match for either. The exact size of a groove rarely matters - you typically plough your grooves to an apprpriate size, then match the panel or drawer-bottom or whatever to go in it by either forming a rebate or planing a bevel to fit.

For woodwork, where the second decimal place in mm rarely matters, a very handy thing to commit to memory is that 1/16 of an inch is close enough to 1.6mm (16 & 1.6 - nice & easy!). You can then quickly work out the most common Imperial fractions to a pretty close match from that. (If you weren't drilled in mental arithmetic, I'm sure your phone has a basic calculator function )...

    Cheers,
    IW

    Cheers,
Maths is not my best subject in fact I need a calculator just to do basic stuff and I really hate having to admit that I am a very slow in the learning department unless it is hands on stuff so I can actually see how things work and fall into place

That’s a 1980’s Record Rebate & Fillister plane, I have one too. As rebate planes go it’s one of the very best ever made.

So, how moany planes are you going for? 10?

In that case it’s 4 down, 46 to go...
