The firmers (metal part) are all done.

The Paring chisels are being done, currently still flattening out the distortions from the heat treatment.

It is being particularly tedious work because all the chisels are slightly undersized on at the top from the water jet cutter which leaves no extra materiel to create an initial reference face, so each one is being flattened and straightened one at a time.

    Thanks for the update Josh.
Is it likely you might send the unhandled Firmers .....soon?
You know they say men have no patients. Just look at the wide spread patients we are exhibiting here!!!
pa·tience (pshns)n.1. The capacity, quality, or fact of being patient.

    Synonyms: patience, long-suffering?, resignation?, forbearance?
These nouns denote the capacity to endure hardship, difficulty, or inconvenience without complaint. Patience emphasizes calmness, self-control, and the willingness or ability to tolerate delay:
Long-suffering is long and patient endurance?,
Resignation implies acceptance of or submission to something trying, as out of despair or necessity: I undertook the job with an air of resignation.
Forbearance denotes restraint, as in retaliating, demanding what is due, or voicing disapproval: "It is the mutual duty of all to practice Christian forbearance, love, and charity towards each other" (Patrick Henry).
See even the dictionary knows how we feel
Thanks Josh for all your work(As well as Ray and Helmut
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

I spoke to about 10 days ago. He said he was not far from finishing. As soon as he returns the handles and ferrules to RayG then the firmer chisels can be posted. I will PM .

only has one ferrule, I have the rest. No point is sending 30kg of ferrules only to have to be sent again...

nomenclature confusion - The brass cone the handle fits into I call the socket because it looks like a socket. The ferrule is the brass tube for the firmer chisel to be struck.

Sorry I think of both of them as ferrules, but I see what you mean, understood.

So I will get the top ring ferrules with the handles from /Tea lady when they have finished off their marvellous work?

And then I can ship out the Firmer chisels.

As soon as finishes turning all the handles. He will post all handles & the ferrules back to you. You should then have the complete kit to start posting the firmer chisels out to everyone. Which consists of a chisel blade, one wooden handle, one brass socket & one brass ferrule.

Handles. There has been a slight delay but we are back on track and should have all the firmer handles done shortly. The ferrules are already fitted to these.

    G'day

As I gave warning would happen some months ago I've been away for a while and, obviously, I'm now back.

I arranged to have the shortfall paid during the period I was away and having checked it "went through" subsequently sent a pm to Thumsucker as directed.

I have not received a pm acknowledging receipt of my funds and having checked through the thread I can see my name does not appear on the "fully paid up" list. I have double checked and the funds have definitely gone through.

Thumbsucker, can you please acknowledge my pm? If there is a problem with my funds having gone " astray" I would like to get down to the bank ASAP and sort it out.

    Regards

    Horaldic

    Hi,

Any chance of an update and photos of progress, I'm way away from the workshop and need something to drool over to pretend I can still smell the sawdust.
Xmas island appears to have amazing jungle, but no one using the local timber in any capacity that I can find.
I did discover a workshop being overgrown within jungle with a functional Woodman 12in Tablesaw still sitting there with extraction system attached. It has made we wonder what else is possibly wasting away on an island with a 150+ year history and the tendency to just abandon what can't be carried.
Anyway I get distracted, how are our chisels progressing, I'm becoming envious of the earlier recipients.
    Mick

says that he is done. He just needs to deliver to RayG. This means that RayG can start posting out the firmer chisels, sockets, and handles as soon as he make arrangments to do so.

A few of us are still waiting on replacement paring chisels from the first batch; are these still in the mix?
