when you flattened the plane's sole, was the frog in or out?

    this can make big difference.

I'm with Derek, everything you've described points to either a plane with an out of flat sole or a piece of wood with irregular "waves" in it

Feeler gauges on glass are showing a flat sole but I know I will need some more sandpaper to test the real flatness of the sole. When I did the initial flattening I had the frog installed from memory. If the sole is out, it can't be out by much .
