Default New Powdered Metallurgy Blades from Henry Eckert

Has anyone tried these new blades out? Derek?

They sound like PMV11 but obviously that name is trademarked. I take it they import the steel from Germany and make the blades in Adelaide. Pretty cool that we have stuff like this being made here.

I got an email from Henry Eckert this morning as well. I must say I think that his new business model of trying to sell HE branded tools and having them made / partly made in Australia / Adelaide is a great move and better than simply re-selling tools available internationally.

I for one will certainly be buying some of this stuff and supporting a genuine value-add within Australia and am happy to pay a premium to support "made in Australia". Whereas I am far less motivated to support re-sellers of tools within Australia if they are available directly from overseas at a much cheaper price.

I noticed they are also selling hold-fasts made in Adelaide, a new marking gauge and a honing guide that looks very similar to a LN but again made in Adelaide!

    Cheers,

    Dom

The Henry Eckert saga has me confused. After starting the business as Lie Nielsen Australia, it is then renamed to Henry Eckert (named after David's son). The business is then handed over to a new manager and David Eckert sets up a new business call Tool Works making local tools. Back slaps all round.
However, Henry Eckert has now renamed itself to Lie Nielsen Australia and Tool Works is now Henry Eckert. However the henry eckert web site still points to Lie Nielsen Australia so everything is not rosy. And some of the competing emails have become snarky along the lines of Lie Nielsen doesn't approve of mods like the Howard Adjuster.
Maybe it's time to quote America's Cup sailor Dennis Connors quote on the motivation of others: "Bet on self interest, it's always running".

Simple: David sold the LN side of the business to Anthony Powell, which included the Henry Eckert name. He kept the manufacturing importing arm, and called this Tool Works. Two different businesses run by two different people, both top blokes.

I think that the blades are only for LN BU bench planes and block planes.
