Hi Rob, (&Derek),
I am looking forward to getting into the new planes. (and reading Dereks take on them).
I love the BU range as the complement my HNTs so well.
Looking forward to having a play and watching the developments.
All the best
Kevin

It's already causing a stir on UKworkshop,
Here's what Philly says about it

Well you'll never be confused which brand of plane you picked up, that's for sure. Still waiting to see the Lv web page and some pricing.

Wow.. I was keeping my mouth well and truly shut about the ugly dovetail saw (I'm sorry Rob) but now that I see that block plane all is forgiven.
It appeals totally to the child in me and will be my first veritas plane I ever own (loml just walked past and said "you're getting one of those")
Speaking purely from the visual corner, the saw looks like an unfinished sketch.. the block plane looks like the concept art for the flying car I was promised as a kid I'd own by now.
A great step in my book.. visually I never disliked the look of veritas planes, they just seemed a bit "half here half there" to me, as if they wanted to be modern but couldn't quite let go.
I think even if i was an accountant I'd be inclined to buy one as a paper weight.

The new block plane is $459.00 at Carba-tec. They have it up on their website here.
I'm sure the new design will grow on me, but right now I like the look of the standard Veritas block plane better. Sorry Rob.Regards,
Ian.

$450 is exxy, but the ductile cast iron one is the same price as the LN LA adjustable mouth plane.
I would like to try one, as the LN LA adjustable mouth block is by far the best I have been lucky enough to handle, any contender would have to be very good indeed to sway me away from the LN.

I own 1 Lie Nielsen (the Rabbet block plane), and I must admit it is a pure joy to use. I also own a Veritas scraper plane, and love that one as well. So I know why these planes cost so much. They're not just all shiny and bright, they are also very, very well made.
But $450 for a block plane just seems so wrong.....
Maybe if the exchange rate ever gets good again.
OK, so maybe I'm not completely over it. Let's see, I could sell the 605. And maybe my 131. Mmm, what else is there? What if I didn't buy coffee for 3 months... Maybe I could work a little overtime.....

I gotta say i like the low centre line on the saw!!! I bet it handles well.
The handle looks pretty good too. UGLY you say.....i think its a move in the right direction. Steel in the blade is Japanese so they say! Looks will hopefully be second to performance!!
The planes on the other hand.....s e x y !! Found this on the Carbatec front page....
