Hi,
my reason for this post is that I came across 2 good videos on YouTube which demonstrated 2 end to end procedures for making mouldings using hand tools and a "sticking board.

The value to me from these videos was that they showed that the hollows and rounds planes (and by implication, moulding planes) were only used as "finishing planes" at the very end, after a lot of wood had been speedily removed using the ordinary bench planes and rebate planes.

Before I saw the videos, I assumed that I would start with the prepared stock and reduce it down to the moulding using the moulding plane alone!
I had read about removing large parts of the stock using rebate planes but mentally forgot about it - it took the videos to show me the importance

How to find the videos: go to youtube and search using the words simon james moldings
(the N.American spelling for mouldings must be used)
