Not sure about that, but they are sought after by anyone with vintage machinery or vintage cars.
I do know that at our markets these go like hotcakes anytime they come up.

Only when you need one! Yes, usually only collected by owners of older British cars.

Anyone who plays with Imperial Machinery of any kind would use these sockets. They are probably 1/2 inch drive. I have such beasties that are 40 plus years old and I have mistreated them but never broke one. 45 years in the Fitting and turning game with 25 employers under the belt. But praise the heavens am retired now after being made rredundant at the last job. Still use whitworth spanners on locomotives at Newport Railway Workshops. Yours 4-6-4

There is R 707 Complete and ready to run with it at 707 Operations is a K class which is being converted to an N class. At Steam Rail there are two R Class 2 K class and a D3 operational There are others not working. R 711 ex West Coast Rail was opperational in the yard last weekend and probably next week end. The ARHS Museum is at present closed for a safety audit. But if you want to see the N class conversion you are quite welcom to look see. Yours 4-6-4

Oh how quickly we forget! When I bought my first set of sidchrome sockets 43 years ago BSW was the standard. I still have them but have added metric since then.

To get into Newport Railway Workshops There are some complications. The normal entrance to the shops is via Shea St this is on the Melways 55 J 6. The complication is that at present Shea streat is being paved an entrance is gained via the entrance to Victoria Uni gate next to Shea St. Follow the Steam Rail signs which will lead you past the coach bogies, some old Loco Boilers and a steam Hammer. Turn right at the construction huts and park outside of 7 & 8 road and make yourself Known. I will be there most Saturdays. 4-6-4
