Record 043 1/8 cutter
Have lost the 1/8" cutter for my Record 043 plane, is it possible to get a replacement.Or where can I get some 3*3mm steel and make my own, as it is a straight cutter.

Hi Paddy
The blade is simply a straight piece of steel.
I made blades for a #044 once (which is more complicated as these have grooves at the back) from old Stanley #45 blades. Keep an eye out on eBay (USA).

Lost Cutter
Hi Paddy,
Have a look on Aus. auction site OZtion.com.au - Online auction and shopping site - Buy or sell almost anything. Fashion, laptops, games, jewellery & more at cheap prices.
I couldn't paste the link but if you do a search on Stanley Plane you should come up with a 4mm straight blade (may in fact be 3mm) from seller Jeerbo
Take care and Stay Sharp,
Jim

Or if you want a brand new one, Clifton make them for their multi-plane (think Stanley 45 or Record 405).
They're not cheap. Workshop Heaven (UK) www.workshopheaven.com stock them for £15.00 - which is £12.77 after you deduct VAT. Postage wouldn't be too expensive for a tiny item like that.

Key steel would be too soft for a plane blade .
1/8" x 1/4 " or 1/8" x 1/16" flat ground stock would be ok as it can be hardened ,where as key steel cant be hardened.
