Removing paint but not Japanning
I have a Stanley No5 (Fore or Jack depending on which Moxon you read) with a tasteful bit of blue spray paint at the heel end. I'm all set to give it a does of polystrip (the citrus based one) but am concerned about the possibility of lifting the japanning too.
Any ideas?
Cheerio,
Virg.

Paint Stripper rips it right off. I just cleaned up a few planes and used stripper to get the Japanning off.
BTW I found out it doesn't work to use paint stripper and then electrolysis to clean off the rust for some reason.
