Rip saws
First post from a beginner, one for the saw gurus. I have the Wenzloff 26" crosscut Kenyon saw. It's beautiful. I want (not need) a rip. Prices are going up and I don't blame them one bit. The 20" is still available at old price. Any thoughts on the difference between 20 and 26" for ripping. I don't intend to do long rips, 3 to 4 feet at most. There is a difference in tpi 5.5 in the 26 and 7 in the 20, will the 20 rip noticeably slower, Ross. '

You ask "There is a difference in tpi 5.5 in the 26" and 7 in the 20", will the 20" rip be noticeably slower"
Yes.
Full rip saws are 28"; and 26" is the most common size. 5.5tpi is fine for a rip, do you mean 5.5ppi. 20" is a panel saw size and is really for small jobs at the bench, perhaps sawing large tenons - really a specialist saw compared to the 26" warhorse. In the wild world of old saws I have never seen a 20" rip, or a 22" or a 24" for that matter.
Cheers
Peter
