    Question router plane

was just wondering if anyone may know how old or what year my router plane may have been made
it was given to me by an old bloke who used to live across the road from me (has since past on)
i thought it looked a bit different to the ones you get today
it comes in very handy for my carvings
    cheers

OK, I'll have a stab at this.

It looks like a Stanley. Can't quite make out the lettering. Records were made in blue.

The presence of the vernier places it after 1902. Does it have an adjustable fence? This would place it at 1939. I can see the hole for this, but it may have been added later.

Is the colour blue, or is this the lighting? Mostly these were nickle plated, later black japanned as well. Post WW2 there were planes with blue japannng. However the script on the body suggests pre-WW2 (I think that the ones with capitals came along about 1950).

It is not a recent variety, that is certain. Perhaps someone else can shed more light.

    Regards from Perth

As per the Stanley Tools Guide to Identity and Value By John Walter on page 743 it is a type 6 Stanley made between1902 and 1905.

    Thumbs up

    derek
    thanks for your attempt
    yes the plane is blue
and the handles are stained red
the letters on the plane say
    No71 stanley
    patented oct.29.01
i think that the adjustable fence is the attachment (pictured)
the previous owner also attached a piece of wood to the base and laminated it
its a little ripper to use
    cheers
