Rust Removal - 21st century
Treadle-powered laser more traditional, perhaps?
1. Don't use it on a mirror.
2. Don't test it against your arm hairs to gauge performance.

I'm wondering what this does for the metal integrity? Not the appropriate term but I'm not a metal person
I'm thinking how this would work on an old saw blade

So what is happening here? Is the rust being cooked and vibrated off? Or is it being re converted to the original condition?

Laser ablation - the rust is turned into plasma because it absorbs the energy from the laser where as the bare metal reflects most of it (at infra red wavelengths)

For around $500,000, you would first want to know whether it affects the etch!

What happens to the debris that comes off the rusted part? There doesn't appear to be any residue around the workbench or dust flying around the bench. Maybe there is a vacuum system built into the work head which sucks up the abraded particles?
Either way, a very interesting demonstration, pity about the huge price.

Yum yum, large quantities of metal vapor and microparticles.

Even allowing that the integrity of the metal on a saw plate is unaffected (very debateable), that's a lot of saw restorations before you get your money back.
