I was looking at some today and I came across this site among others .

Andy Mac had a shaving horse you may like to search for.

Here's one I saw in Canada recently, the log base makes it very stable. This was at Fort Calgary and may have been the type used when they built the fort.

    Default Shaving Horse

Can I ask a quick 'hijacky' sort of question while the shaving horse users are here... What's the difference in use of the curved and straight draw shaves on the shaving horse? Is it a matter of preference or are there specific roles?

Thanks for the pictures guys and for the offer to look at one Pagie. In your picture Pagie is that a steel plate that the work sits on under the clamp ? looks like you have heaps of room for adjustment as well .

    Default The Horse.

    Hi All,
My only comment is, the ones I have used & owned by others is that, 3 legs are better than 4, as 3 always find their balance, where as 4 rock around.

Nantes, not sure if you are asking about the S/Horse or The Draw Knives used on the S/Horse.
    Regards,
    issatree.

Just curved for hollowing out , like for the inside of a barrel stave and straight for flat or convex like for stool legs I think Matt.

Rob, Issatree, I wasn't thinking of the two handed scorp/drawknives, rather the ones where the blade is flat but curves toward the user like a sabre.

    Sorry, I wasn't terribly clear.

No just some leather. I tend to alter the horse if I need to hold something that won't fit. I have two at the moment.

Berlin, I have about six draw knives I think. All sizes and types. I use the one that fits the cuts I am making at the time. Or sometimes just the sharpest one. When that one is blunt I sharpen them all. As to the curve of the blade, again just depends on the cut I want. They are very versatile tools, I like using them. There is not much else that will do what they do. No I think it is seven that I have. Still keep looking at markets when I get the chance. Maybe I should not go to any more.
I should go and sharpen something...
