Default How to make a shooting board

Job #456 on my list is to build a shooting board. (Have to get the Try plane first but nevertheless). Unfortunately theres not a lot of infor on the net regarding SB construction.

I'm sure most of you can direct me to this article:
    http://www.amgron.clara.net/planingp...otingindex.htm

However it seems to be teaching people to run before they walk. So...........

Based on my readings, my impression of how they work is as follows. This is what I'm going to build so if I'm on the wrong track. Let me know!

I'm partly postnig this so that theres a simpler reference for thos surfing the net looking for "how to build a shooting board"

    Photos correspond to steps
Step 1) Two lumps of wood, all square and flat. Glued and screwed
Step 2) Plane a little rebate into the fenceboard to allow for the blade depth
Step 3) Place the wood on top
Steps 4,5) Keep planing till youre not not shaving anything.

The thing i still dont get is that, according to this theory, the blade will have to be at EXACTLY the same depth everytime.

Confused yes, but trial and error will teach me.
    Cheers,

    Adam

Looks like your on the right track Lefty.

I don't think it will make any difference if the blade projection is different each time.

As long as the small strip that the sole runs on doesn't change.

    Ben.
