Hi Gerard

Thank you once again. Here are some more pictures of the iron. The wedge is 10mm wide, so apart from allowing lateral adjustment, I'm not sure why the tail (or is it tang?) is tapered from 9mm to 6mm at the top. I think that this poor iron wasn't cared for too well & maybe a previous owner did some home modifications. So I'll leave it up to you as to how wide to make the tail.

Is there anything that I will need to do to it? I assume that I will need to grind a bevel, but on some other threads they talk about heat treating, is that something that I need to do? Sorry, I have only been using handplanes for about 6 months, so they are still a little new to me, and I really don't know much about HSS except its harder than A2.

The measurements will be enough, I will need width of the blade, length of blade (from cutting edge to shoulder), length & width of tail.
