Here's an old Sid Chrome spanner I found in Dad's toolbox yesterday.
No idea how old it it, but it looks to be fairly old.
Anyone got one to match? Know any more about possible vintage or history?
    thanks

    Hi Rocket..
The "SDF" logo stands for Siddons Drop Forgings.. and acccording to info on the web, was formed in 1942.
Have attached a pic of a pair of spanners with similar logo's.. both from the 1940's
The top spanner was apparently made by Siddons for Edward George Vaughn, a hardware merchant .. apparently he acted as an agent for Siddons !?
Below it is another EGV spanner but this one is marked Sidchrome ..
I would assume that these predate the SDF marked spanners..

thanks for that Ken, so it seems the symbol is the same but the letters within changed over the years.
Spanner collecting is pretty big overseas by the sound of it, I wonder how many people collect our local tool history? They seem to be getting expensive, so there must be some collectors out there.

    Default Sidalloy

    Hi all.

Dug out my small assortment of Sidalloy open enders.. According to the trade mark application this was another brand that was manufactured by Siddons.
I have never seen anything but open enders with this marking..and they are not as common as the regular Sidchrome spanners.
I sometimes wonder if they were made as a budget line or for some particular hardware store !.. overseas orders ?
    Ken.
