Sidchrome tools-made in australia!
Hey all iam new to this forum just wanted to talk about the old sidchrome tools that were made in australia before going overseas and becoming taiwan and chinese, does anyone know where i can buy some sidchrome made in australia tools besides ebay?
ive tried ebay but either prices go to high and get outbidded, is there any dealer or shops that can buy second hand in melbourne area???
Iam starting to collect anything sidchrome that has stamped made in australia from socket sets to ring spanners to pliers and acrewdrivers, these tools never die there very strong and value keeps increasing every year there like gold these days cause there becoming more rare, when i was at tafe they had those sidchrome wall cabinet with that 205 piece sidchrome tool set and i would use it all the time but back then to own one of those sets you would have to be fricken rich as,
Have bought acouple od sidchrome socket sets on ebay and some ring spanners very hard to get your hands on un rusted and clean sidchrome tools that have been looked after, i have purchases some new sidchrome stuff to like socket sets but find the sockets are wobbly when put on rachet, maybe because of the quick release pin they have to eject them quicky,
if anyone has some sidchrome tools they want to sell me let me know!!!

mrsidchrome,
You've made the first good step in publicising what you are on about on this forum. At the Woodwork shows there are stalls with old tools and perhaps one of the Forum people would have a contact number for one or more of these sellers for you?
I am sure there would be some 'real' Sidchrome stuff for sale.
Good luck in your search,
Graham

Garage sales are a good source of old tools, but you have to persevere.

PM me your email and I will dig out the duplicates I have. They have all been well used so do not expect pristine tools.

Just to make you feel good. Back in the days when sidchrome were a power in the land I picked up two ratchet drivers for $9. Both had their plastic handles gone. Just took them in to a sidchrome outlet and swapped them for new.
Cheers,
Jim

I have always wondered about that lifetime guarantee with sidchrome, what happens if someone had the made in australia versions and they broke or stuffed up does sidchrome give u the non australian taiwan sidchrome or do they give u the original made in oz??? cause that isnt fair cause ur not getting the same quality i guesss???

Sadly, it's exchanged for the current (and available) product. So your unconditionally guaranteed Aus made item is returned as a slightly less guaranteed overseas manufactured tool: Utterly unfair! However, my tame tool chappie offers credit to the value of the broken item(s) which can then be used on the decent stuff he stocks, like Stahlwille or Koken!

I went into cash converters today to have a look at some tools cause someone told me they might have sidchrome gear there, so i went to that glass safe storage where they keep there socket sets and they only had a kingcrome socket set all rusted out and they wanted $300 for it lol not even new it costs that much, what a rip off those people are!!!!

Definitely garage sales are the way to go. Trouble is you have to go to a lot of them to find the gems - it can become a bit of a lifestyle choice. But that's the only way I know to get this kind of stuff cheap. Every now and again you stumble across a real good garage sale and can buy lots of stuff.

Never give up.
