Default SIMONDS Saw And Steel Co - no.342 saw tool

Bushmiller this is a little find on the weekend

Don't know if there is any real value in a dollar sense but for some who say collects Simonds Saws it may be the sort of thing one might like to add to their collection if they do not already have one.

Paul if you dont have one you are welcome to this one. Picked it up with you in mind.

Thoughts on how it was used?

Gavin nailed it straight off Dave.

I don't have much use for it myself and to be truthful I would have to refer to the video to see how to use it, but in principle it does everything including setting the depth of the rakers.

That one looks to be in excellent condition complete with the little spider thingy to check the set. In the US you could probably get close to US$100 for that as the crosscutting market is strong. I am not sure about here.

I just had a quick look and this is current for the same saw set:

Vintage Simonds No 342 Raker Gauge Spider Antique Saw Sharpening Tool Set in Box

This is from the 1919 catalogue and from that I note the patent date is 1917. The hammer to which they refer is that funny looking device on the second page:

Dave it was terrific of you to think of me, but it is outside of the area I concentrate on. Believe it or not I do try to restrict my interest....a little. However, I think you should be able to get quite respectable money for that. Does it also have an instruction sheet with it as that would considerably add to the collectible aspect?

The people that participate in the lumberman competitions would be very interested as that device is essential for sharpening the logging saws.

Actually Simonds made several saw sets for logging saws. The No.342 is their premium model.

    Paul
