Stanley # 110 block plane.
The following represents the 2nd last thread I am going to forward on Block Planes.
The Stanley 110 shown below was manufactured post 1936, based on the Stanley logo.
That's likely the same vintage this Stanley Advertising (2 Draw Box) was made. Unlike the block plane, which is clearly stamped Made in England, the Hardware Box most likely originated from the USA, based on the fact that where I purchased it from close to 15yrs ago.
After fettling the sole and resharpening the iron, the block plane was put to work, and produced some very nice and consistent curly shavings.
Note the darker outer patina achieved in the next photo, after soaking the body of the plane in a solution of Evapo-Rust for 1 hour.
But the story doesn't end there. If you recall on previous posts I mentioned the potential of overstressing the mouth area of the sole, if too much pressure was applied via the lever cap.
Guess what the previous owner forgot to mention when I purchased this block plane.
A very fine hairline crack on both sides of the mouth opening.
