Stanley No2 Value?
Hi All visiting at a friends place today and saw a Stanley no 2 in a display cabinet and made a comment about it they showed it to me and I made a comment that It might be worth something substantial (ish). They basically had no emotional attachment to it and said to investigate what It was worth. It a Stanley US manufacture according to the blade No 2 Complete and undamaged handles and finish Jappaning good condition This has a lateral adjuster. Some minor on blade chip breaker and lever cap rust but no pitting. I am going to give it a tidy up. Just take apart and scrub and a lick on the metal with steel wool and kero or the like.
Question is Whats it worth?"All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing"

One sold on Trademe on 14 September for $NZ250. There's one listed on e-pay (UK) ATM - SW era - currently at £141 (10 bids).
Not worth twice as much as a No.1 .

Some collectors will pay good money for a good number 2.
Some craftsmen will be glad to buy a number 2 because their hands are small enough to use it, and it might be worth something to them as a user plane. I have tried one, and it was just too small to use in my large-ish hands. To me it was worth very little. While I wouldn't own one, there are some people who would.
Cheers

I've never held one, but I wonder if there is little difference between a No 2 and a block plane.

Yeah, I can just get my hands around a No 3 which I like using. I have a 130 and that "16" you suggested from Hans Bruner and they work for me because I can get my hands around them.

Hi,
Hans Brunner has them listed at $350 and $500 for the corrugated sole but it is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.
Stanley 2 smooth plane

I can see the benefit of a corrugated sole on a long plane (e.g. #7 or #8), but on a tiny little #2 ????
Just because they could?
