I have crunched the numbers and we have used all of the 800 mm x 2.5 mm x 1500 mm M2 sheet.

Since I have given us a month to get organized. I have added another sheet to the order so that people can get their share. However if we do not fill a second sheet some folks will have to miss out.

So for the moment I am still taking orders for Stanley Replacement Blades and Plane Blades for Wooden Hand Planes.

The plane blades for Wooden Hand Planes will come in, 50 x 4 x (Any length you want), 50 x 6 x (Any length you want), and 60 x 6 x (Any length you want). At these sizes they will also fit your HNT Gordon, Jack, Smoother, Trying and Jointer Planes.

We are up to 117 plane blades at this point.

To keep cost's down we can just get the centre slots heat treated then people can do what they like with their pieces. Order 5 blades get 5 centre slots.

I will give preference to Stanley plane blades and only go with the chisels if we cannot finish the sheet.

    Default Oops!

    Hi Helmut,

Can you please change mine from a #4&1/2 to a #5?

That is what I get from relying on memory and not checking first! Still looking for my wooden planes - will get back to you shortly.

Like the idea of using the off-cuts for marking blades - anyone going to have any spare?

    Regards

    Brendan

I am thinking to use them as replacement for the HNT Spokeshaves.

I do want replacements for my Record A151 Spokeshaves too, but so far I'm the only one. So, I'll hold off on that unless the 2nd sheet has leftovers after all the Stanley orders are taken.

    Cheers mate

I've read most of the posts but am a little confused about what is being offered

I gather that the deal is for Stanley style plane blades in M2 steel, beveled at 25°, with the back flattened "out of the packet" — flattening will cost $10 per blade

In that case what I'd like is
2 x #5 (to go in a LN#5, one to be shaped as a scrub blade, the other as a smoother blade)

1 x #6 (to go in a UK Stanley #6, to be shaped as a smoother blade)
    1 x Record #10½

someone else is welcome to my "holes"

if any of these blades are "off the menu" then they are off the menu — I don't expect a special effort to be made just for me.

Ian - you can get 2.5 mm thick plane blade to go with your No. 5 and No. 6.

Blades for the 10 1/2 is not available. You will need to flat and sharpen your own blades, blades will only come with their primary bevel ground square. Anything beyond that is for you to do.

I'm drawing the blades and chipbreakers in CAD now and have encountered an issue I would like others to comment on. The blades are straight forward from the blades in my own possession and from the data in Helmut's PDF. However, there's no dat on the dimensions of the chip breakers.

I don't have examples of some of the planes in question, so I can't check the relationship myself. Here's the dilema; do I move the chipbreaker slot, threaded screw hole and adjuster engagement slot proportionately in relation to the distance from the cutting edge of the blade to the centre of the keyhole on the blade, or are there other issues in play here, possibly on a plane-by-plane basis?

The latter being the case, can I please get data on the dimensions of the chipbreakers for plane numbers 3, 4-1/2, 5-1/2, 6, 7 and 8 ONLY.
    .
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

    Regards, Woodwould.

Swit775, are you sure you have the correct dimensions for the No.4-1/2 blade? In the PDF table, you give the distance from the bottom of the slot to the blade edge as 15mm. Most new blades I've come across are 50.8mm. Your dimensions for the No.4 and No.5 blades vary considerably whereas in reality, they are identical blades. On top of that, neither of your No.4 and No.5 blade dimensions matches the brand new blades I have in my possession.

I don't fancy being the kicking post if the finished blades don't meet the requirements, so I think it's best I desist compiling the DXF files for the laser until I have unilaterally confirmed dimensions for blades and chipbreakers.

I will resume when Helmut has an unequivocal list of blade and chipbreaker sizes.

Hi Woodwould, it is most definitely plane by plane although some models are interchangeable. I posted this info earlier and also pm'ed it to TS. It is the key measurements for the 3-6, I don't own a 7 or 8 and the 5 1/2 CB is a homemade job and not to be trusted.

    Cheers
