Email on the way thumbsucker, I have receipts for $924.45 for postage and sticky tape. I am friends with the post office girls now. They worked out the cheapest post for each package. Nice people.

Pagie - I have sent you a reply email.

For those who have not had their orders filled completely, I will look at what Pagie sends me, I will then try to fill any missing pieces. If we are still short once Canberra has been sorted. I will have to get more blades manufactured out of my own pocket.

I have followed this process with great interest and I eagerly awaited the receipt of my paid items. It is disappointing to find the order ending like this.

I fail to understand how this order has finalised with an under supply of stock. Was there an audit carried out ensuring the correct number of items was received back every time they were returned from the manufacturers? Has DJ confirmed that all the stock had been collected for delivery? Have any extra items delivered been returned? I know Beetle Shirt indicated that he has received an extra 2” blade and cap iron. Was this extra returned and how many others received extras but have not advised so?

Thumbsucker and co have done a great job in organising this for the community. Using your own time and money to carry out various responsibilities is admirable. It is unfortunate that there was such a long delay in the delivery of the items and a shortfall in the number of products from the start of manufacturing to the end.
There were times over the last two years when I felt like expressing my frustration at the delays of this process but decided against posting. I understand that life gets in the way and delays will happen but to have this at the end is mildly frustrating to say the least.

Thumbsucker, I do not believe the solution will be to have another batch manufactured in order to back fill a few shortfalls in this process. It’s not going to be cost effective and the time frame for delivery will be too long. Besides, I don’t think I could wait another year or two. I have been putting up with Stanley blades for the last 2 years expecting a decent replacement and I guess I will need to look elsewhere.

Out of pocket and out of stock…

    Hi Denim

I have a supply of blades, and a few blades were sent to the wrong people. I am sure that we have your blades. I also have a few blades that set aside for me. Worst case, you can take my blades. No one will miss out.

I am waiting for a box of stuff to come from Pagie, then we will sort it out.

I made a promise, and I keep my promises.

    Cheers

Although I had paid for postage, I picked up my blades from Pagie yesterday and I am very pleased with the result.
Thumbsucker, I am happy to donate the $12 that I paid for postage. ( i.e. don't worry about refunding it.)
This has been a fascinating exercise for me to watch this project unfold. I never really thought of how much organising and engineering went in to producing a simple plane blade. I won't look at a plane blade again and say, "that seems like an awful lot for a bit of steel!"

So to all who organised and helped I would like to say thank you! I take my hat off to you.
    Cheers,
    Steck

Can we have a list published of what was sent to who. I haven't got mine yet either and it's impossible to tell from all the above whether they've been sent and haven't arrived, or if someone else got them, or if they have vanished into thin air.

SilentC, 2 “ blade, 2” cap, 2 3/8” blade, 2 3/8” cap. is what should be in your order.

I think your were posted yesterday. I have read all the names and addresses that it is hard to tell when it was that I read them. I never kept a list of them as they went out only a list of who's was left to pack and post. I have a master list that I made as the addresses came in. After I posted the first batch I realised that I should have kept a list of what was posted but it was too late then.

    Denim,
My extra 2" B&C is waiting on word of where to send it - when I first advised I'd received an extra package it wasn't clear whether there would be any spares, so as suggested I held off hoping I'd be able to just pay for the extra.

    Helmut/Peter,
Once the lists have been sorted PM or email me an address and I should be able to get it away within a day or two.

To all involved in this, thanks for your time and efforts in putting this together. As Steck said, there's a lot more involved in something like this than is apparent from looking at the finished product.

This was the most F****ed up Job I have ever done. It was badly organised from the start. Fist I couldn't get the Blades and Caps, couldn't get addresses out of people. Couldn't even get a list that had all the info that I needed to post things. I had to keep swopping around from one list to another. And still I couldn't get all the addresses. Now one of the people that I had no address for is asking Helmut why he did not get anything. I feel I am getting blamed for the loss of Blades. I know I sent some things to the wrong people or forgot things but at least I tried to get them to all the right people. I just ran out of product. I am down about $120 of my own money that I can not afford as I am not employed due to being sick for two years. I will never volunteer for anything again. Enjoy your blades if you got any. Merry Xmas All

Peter, mine arrived today, so thanks for that. I admit I was a bit p'ed off when it looked like I wasn't getting them, but I for one appreciate you picking up the dropped ball.

This isn't fair and I think the hat needs to be passed around again.

Up to the point of ordering the steel this process seemed to go very well. TS did a very good job of compiling a list that contained everyone's order. The list was regularly updated and we all had access to the information. After the manufacturing started it seems the lights were unintentionally 'turned off'. I'm only suspecting and it's possible that I missed a post here and there but I cannot recall any indication that we had the correct number of items after each process (cut, surfaces, ground etc.). It is highly probable that items went astray after each process resulting in us having insufficient stock.

My post was not intended to lay any blame at anyone's feet. I was hoping to have some light shed on what was done throughout the process to ensure we didn't lose any stock. It was also a prompt for those who received more stock than they should have to return them ensuring everyone got their paid for allocation and no more.

It is unfortunate that the postage costs have been greater than projected but over two years postage charges have gone up and it isn't a surprise that we were short. Peter, did you keep a track of how much each item cost to post? It may be worth following up with those who were short on the actual postage to try and compensate you for your losses.

The alternative is for everyone to pass the hat around to compensate Peter for his losses.

    Regards,

    Denim

Having walked into this conversation pretty late in the peice, it seems to me that Peter has made a pretty good fist of helping us all to sort through the final steps here. I for one would hate to feel like I've been a burden on a fellow member who has put up a hand to help.

Peter, when the hat goes around I'll be sure to stump up. Thanks for getting my gear to me, it arrived in good order yesterday.
