That does look cool.
I bought a Stanley No.8 in December, for parts. The only thing wrong with it, is the sole is damaged at the where the front 'feet' of the frog have broken through the sole. Maybe that's not the death knell for a plane after all .

With your #8, maybe the sole has been lapped / machined so much it's now so thin that it can twist
