Default A strange handsaw etch / handle combo for identification

This one up for sale on an *ahem* well known internet selling site.

I keep an eye on the seller because he often describes tools for sale poorly, or not at all, and they don't get noticed. (I recently picked up a sweet D100 thumbhole rip from him for pocket change - it was described as "Old hand saw" - but more of that one on the weekend).

The saw in question is odd. A very ornate etch that I can't quite read (I'm fairly sure it's not a paint on etch); and with it the ugliest hand breaker handle imaginable. But it does look very much like the handle is the original for the saw.

My first thought was something Spear and Jackson from the company's transition period from quality to rubbish, but can't find anything to match.

    Any ideas?

This saw is an "Orsa". It's a Swedish saw. If you google around you should be able to find some more info. Hope this helps.

    Goodvibes

Thoroughly agree with you on the handle. That would be a duckling even amongst ugly handles. More of an issue to my mind is that it looks to be the wrong angle so that when sawing your sawing arm cannot deliver maximum power.

I suspect it is a large handle for sawing outside in extreme cold and consequently allowing for a gloved hand. I think a nice replacement handle would be a must if you plan to keep it. I don't know anything about the brand so I can't help there.

Have to agree about the handle I could not live with that. Should be good steel being Swedish. First saw I bought was a sandvik and it was a good saw even with a plastic handle.
