    Default Sydney Chisel

    Greetings
Picked this chisel up in a rusty bundle recently.
    Chisel manufacture? in Sydney?
Or is it one made for Mr Aitken the Merchant?
Certainly not one Ive seen before.
Boasts a lovely Bullnose profile also.

No idea, but I agree that it has a nice shape.

Interested to hear if anyone has a clue.

    Cheers,
    Luke

At first glance, the shape reminded me of some Stormonts that I have somewhere

There is a reference on Trove to Thomas Aitken and Son, Ironmongers of Pitt St, Sydney.
    17 Jul 1923 - ESTATE OF [?] - Trove
Thomas passed away on June 2 1932 leaving an estate with a net value of £37, 289.

I did some research a while back on the merchant T Aitken but have forgotten most of it . I have a few quite old berg chisels c1890/c1900 and they are marked with the makers logo plus 'T.Aitken' Sydney, not T.Aitken and Son' like yours. Likely then that yours are some time after that. Would be interesting to know when that change was made.
